The Helen Bernstein Book Award for Excellence in Journalism celebrates its 30th anniversary this year with a series of conversations and interviews focusing on journalism today.


Since 1988, the Bernstein Award, which includes a $15,000 cash prize, has been given to journalists whose books have brought clarity and public attention to important issues, events, or policies. Previous winners of the award include Jane Mayer, George Packer, Dan Fagin, Katherine Boo, Anand Giridharadas, and, most recently, Jill Leovy for her book "Ghettoside: A True Story of Murder in America."
