On this week's episode, Janet Mock. She’s a writer, activist, tv host, and now also the host of her own podcast. She was at the Library recently to talk about Surpassing Certainty: What My Twenties Taught Me, her second memoir, which was just published in June.

Mock spoke with Lisa Lucas, the Executive Director of the National Book Foundation, which, in addition to presenting the annual National Book Awards, does extensive work promoting reading and education, and supporting writers. The two talked about everything from Mock’s time in the publishing industry to her work in a Honolulu strip club, from spam recipes and Zara dresses to the influence of writers like Maya Angelou and Zora Neale Hurston.
